Interview with Marilyn Kesler – A Michigan Teaching Legend

Candace Chappell, MASTA Notes Blog Editor

In the upcoming days, music teachers from all across the state will be attending the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. The conference will feature many wonderful speakers, clinics, events, and performances, including the String Teachers Orchestra. This year, the Teachers Orchestra will be led by cellist and master teacher Marilyn Kesler.

Marilyn has dedicated her life to string education in the public school classroom and the private lesson studio. As a cellist myself, I have always admired Marilyn and her dedication, passion, and drive. A couple of years ago I was able to get together with her to talk about her career. She invited me into her home for coffee and pastry, and we sat together at her kitchen table as she shared her story.

I’d like to share that interview with you now, in order for you to get a glimpse into the career of this amazing person!  Please follow the link to the audio recording of our conversation.
