The MSBOA Alternative Styles Day (ASD) for high-school string players is Saturday, November 13, 2010, on the campus of Michigan State University. This one-day event will provide participants with the opportunity to work with state-renowned clinicians: String Cheese (Ali Haraburda and Diana Ladio) and Reid Smith. String players in the 9th - 12th grades at MSBOA-member high schools during the 2010-2011 school year, as well as MSBOA members, may participate in this event. The ASD gives both students and teachers the opportunity to explroe a wide range of musical styles on their string instruments, including fiddle, rock, and jazz. This event will culminate in a performance at Michigan State University as well. Pre-established alternative styles student groups in the state will also have the opportunity to audition to be featured in the evening's concert. Cost for the day is $35/student or $15/adult. (Late applications will be accepted until a postmark deadline of October 8, 2010, with late fees of $5/participant.)
