Conductor</b></p><p align="">The job
of conductor for the Philharmonia Orchestra, a part of the larger group of the
Oakland Youth Orchestras, is a multi-faceted one. The successful candidate must
be able to combine their passion for music with a seriousness of approach,
while encouraging a light-hearted atmosphere that allows the orchestra to grow
and change during the season.</p><p align=""><b>Responsibilities</b></p><p align="">The successful candidate will:</p><p align="">·
conduct weekly rehearsals September
thru May and three performances (fall, winter and spring) through the
season</p><p align="">·
select appropriate orchestral
repertoire </p><p align="">·
be available to participate in
auditions for the upcoming season</p><p align="">·
attend board meetings (4) and
participate in Board of Director decisions</p><p align="">·
provide program notes for concert
programs and occasional newsletter article</p><p align="">·
maintain a strong working and
professional relationship with the other principal conductors of the OYO
organization</p><p align=""><b>Qualifications</b></p><p align="">The successful candidate will:</p><p align="">·
be an experienced conductor of
full orchestra literature meeting the needs of a range of predominantly high
school-aged musicians;</p><p align="">·
have extensive stringed
instrument background as well as have experience in woodwind, brass and
percussion teaching and/or conducting;</p><p align="">·
Will demonstrate strong
leadership skills; be punctual and organized; maintain a good relationship with parent
volunteers; possess an encouraging, inspiring and engaging demeanor while
demanding a high standard of excellence of the members of the orchestra.</p><p align=""><br></p><p align="">The
conductor's salary will be determined by the Executive Board,
commensurate with the candidates’ experience level and previous affiliation
with the youth orchestra profession. Each candidate must supply three letters
of recommendation speaking to their abilities in the afore-mentioned areas of
need. Final candidates will be subject to a conducting and standard interview
process. </p><p align="">A letter of
