[Members] STRING DAY at Wayne State

Dear Colleagues:

The Department of Music of Wayne State University will host STRING ORCHESTRA 
DAY for talented Middle and High School students of orchestral string 
instruments on Monday, February 5, 2007.  Participants will receive sectional 
coaching and participate in workshops with members of the Detroit Symphony 
Orchestra who are Adjunct Faculty of our Department. In addition, STRING 
ORCHESTRA DAY participants will join the Strings of the WSU Orchestra to 
rehearse and perform a program in the Orchestra Room in the renovated Old 
Main. 

The works to be studied for performance are: 
Britten: Simple Symphony
Telemann: Don Quixote Suite
 
The program is especially suited for students who are seriously interested in 
developing their orchestral skills and who are considering the possibility of 
studying music at the University level.  I would  greatly appreciate your efforts to 
encourage your students to participate; it is important that you consider the 
selected repertory when recommending students for this program. Please call  
our Department if you have any questions or to recommend individual students 
who may benefit from participation in this program. We will be pleased to 
contact these students directly. Application forms are enclosed.
