Hello Michigan ASTA! I hope you are enjoying your summer!
If you've been thinking about nominating one of your students for the 2008 National High School Honors Orchestra in Albuquerque, NM, NOW is the time to do it. Our deadline for submitting applications and recordings is August 1st. Information below.
2008 NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL HONORS ORCHESTRA
for high school juniors and seniors
The National High School Honors Orchestra (NHSHO) is a performing group of about 120 competitively selected high school musicians who assemble biennially to perform at the ASTA national conference. The 2008 ASTA Conference will be February 28-March 1st, 2008, in Alburquerque, New Mexico. The conductor will be Jung-Ho Pak, resident conductor at our own Interlochen Arts Academy and also the Artistic Director of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. Park has been described by the New York Times as one who "radiates enthusiasm" which I'm sure you'll agree with if you've ever seen him working with the World Youth Symphony at Interlochen.
High school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for the orchestra. Students are required to be members of their school orchestra and must apply through their ASTA state chapter. They submit an audition tape or CD of required literature and three minutes from literature of their own choosing.
To download an application and to learn of the required repertoire, go to:
www.astaweb.com and click into NHSBHO on the homepage
Mail your application and recording to:

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
