Second Annual Ars Expo - 3 weeks away!

Michigan Youth Arts is excited to host the second annual Arts Expo for high school
students interested in pursuing degrees in music, theatre, dance, visual art, media
arts, and related disciplines. Both college and university visual and performing
 arts program  representatives from across the country will be in attendance to 
meet and share opportunities open to students looking to continue with the arts 
in their post high school life. Over 30 colleges and universities will be in attendance
on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Lansing Center in

Interlochen Center for the Arts - Symposium 2012

Michigan Music Teachers Association - 2012 State Conference

The 127th Annual State Conference for the Michigan Music Teachers Association will
be held from October 21-23, 2012 at the Kensington Court Hotel in Ann Arbor. The
 conference artist is Robert Weirich, one of the most respected and sought-after
 artist-teachers in the country. In addition, the Ann Arbor Area Piano Teachers 
Guild will honor a very special observance of the 150th birthday of Claude Debussy
with a presentation and concert devoted to Debussy's gamelan-inspired music. The
 conference will also feature MMTA/MTNA student winners in concert, the MMTA commissioned

Michigan Poetry Out Loud - 2012 Contest Schedule
The Michigan Humanities Council in partnership with Poetry Out Loud have posted 
their 2012 contest schedule. This national poetry recitation competition for high
school students is a highlight for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. All students
who are interested in showcasing their talent, and building their public speaking
skills should apply by October 26, 2012.

META - Registration Deadline October 26th
The Michigan Education Theatre Association is an organization devoted entirely to
supporting theatre education for both students and teachers throughout the state.
Any Michigan high school is eligible to participate in the individual event adjudications
through participation in the META State Theatre Festival in December 2012. Those
 who are preselected as Individual Event representatives that earn superior honors
from the state festival perform in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. The deadline
to register for the state festival is October 26th.

MMEA - Application Deadline November 2nd!

The Michigan Music Education Association's Honors Composition Concert is an outstanding
event that provides an opportunity for students to compose and perform original 
music, and is open to students in grades K-12. Winners are invited to perform their
compositions at the Michigan Music Conference (MMC), held in Grand Rapids, as well
as the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. The deadline for all composition submissions

School Improvement Conference
On November 8-9, 2012 at the Lansing Center, the Michigan Department of Education
will be hosting a School Improvement Conference. The topics will include: School
 Climate and Culture and Teacher Effectiveness. Their feature keynote speaker is
 Milken National Educator, internationally-renowned speaker and best-selling author,
