Presenting the First Annual

MASTA youth String Teaching Projects Competition

Competition Description:
The annual MASTA Youth String Teaching Projects Competition is designed to promote excellence in string teaching inquiry, research and publication among high school and college students. The competition offers the opportunity to be published in MASTA Notes. Any student supervised by a MASTA string educator and presently in grades 9-12 or enrolled in college are welcome. Entries must be original contributions to the field of string teaching, pedagogy and performance.

MASTA will consider manuscripts of all length. However, a maximum of 1000 words in length is preferred. The manuscript should use The Chicago Manual of Style: The Essential Guide for Writers, Editors and Publishers, 15th Edition. Multimedia projects will also be accepted. Electronic submissions as Word attachments are preferable. A panel of string education and string pedagogy scholars will select the winning entries.

Examples:
(1) Compile and assess methods used to teach “knowledge of the fingerboard” in the private studio.
(2) Review the history of the development of the violin solo artist in America.
(3) Investigate the effectiveness of incorporating physical warmup exercises or yoga prior to orchestra rehearsals. Create a video demonstrating results.

All entries should be post marked by May 1, 2014.
