Subject: Potential Part-Time Opening at DCDS
Hi Janis,
DCDS will possibly have a lower elementary strings teacher posting soon. We would like to see what the interest in this part-time position would be. Would you please send this out to our MASTA family?
Thank you!
Joanna
Dear MASTA Members,
Detroit Country Day School is looking to expand our strings program! The strings program at DCDS is very unique, with classes offered to students in kindergarten through high school. Our program is very healthy and has grown in size over the past few years. We have a tight-knit music faculty and the arts are well-supported by our school. We are looking to add a new faculty member who is enthusiastic about teaching lower elementary students and has expertise in that age group. Having a dedicated violin teacher at the Lower School, our preschool-grade 2 building, would allow us to continue to strengthen the foundation of our strings program while expanding and strengthening our grade 3-12 program.
We are looking for a part-time specialist to teach the Lower School (grades K-2) Violin Program. Students in grades 1-2 take after-school group classes twice a week for 30 minutes, year-round. Kindergarten students have a 30-minute group class once a week and a 15-minute pull-out lesson (2-4 students at a time) once a week. Group class sizes are small at 6-12 students per class. 5 or 6 classes are offered per year at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The current schedule is Monday-Thursday from 2:30-5:15, but there can be some flexibility in scheduling. While violin is the only instrument offered at the Lower School, students often continue to play the violin in grade 3 or switch to viola, cello, or bass.
Please understand that this is not a job posting, but we are exploring the level of interest and potential candidates for this position. Please contact me privately if you are interested – I would be happy to discuss it with you! Recommendations are also welcome.
All the best,
JOANNA VAN EIZENGA
