Hello Janis, would it be possible to post the following substitute openings to the MASTA list?
The Dorothy Gerber Strings Program announces an opening for a substitute string classroom instructor for the month of January.
Title:
Classroom Instructor
Schedule:
January 9 through 30, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 through 5:30
Location:
Charlevoix Elementary School
Job Description:
Serving as the primary string teacher in a classroom setting, including a beginning string class (including violin, viola, cello and bass) from 3:30-4:20 and Intermediate class from 4:30-5:20. The class is currently studying with modified Suzuki material, but could also include Essential Elements.
Required Qualifications:
1. Competence on at least one orchestral string instrument that would provide a quality model for young students to emulate
2. Training in string classroom education, preferably a bachelor’s degree in music education with a string emphasis
3. Experience teaching in a string education classroom
4. Willingness to teach under the supervision of the DGSP director and to adapt to the methods of the regular teacher of this class
5. Willingness to undergo a background check and to make a commitment to the safety of all students in the program

March 6 through 22, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15 through 6:30

Charlevoix Round Lake Facility
Job Description:
Serving as the primary string teacher in a classroom setting, including a beginning string class (including violin, viola, cello and bass) from 4:00-4:50. This class utilizes modified Suzuki repertoire. Also teaching private Suzuki lessons to Pre-k through 2nd grade students on Tuesdays and group classes on Thursdays.
Required Qualifications:
1. Competence on at least one orchestral string instrument (preferably violin) that would provide a quality model for young students to emulate
2. Training in string classroom education, preferably a bachelor’s degree in music education with a string emphasis
3. Experience teaching in a string education classroom
4. Training and experience in teaching the Suzuki Method
5. Willingness to teach under the supervision of the DGSP director and to adapt to the methods of the regular teacher of this class
6. Willingness to undergo a background check and to make a commitment to the safety of all students in the program

Volunteer your music education knowledge and time for the students of Northern Michigan. Dorothy Gerber Strings Program is bringing world-class stringed instrument education to Northern Michigan youth. A program of classes and individual lessons is available for students across Charlevoix, Antrim, and Emmet counties, hosted by the Charlevoix Circle of Arts because of the generosity of the Cummings Foundation.
