[MASTA] Chamber Music Festival Wrap Up

Dear MASTA Members,

I would like to thank all the students who participated in the the 27th
annual MASTA Chamber Music Festival at the University of Michigan, and all
of the teachers who helped prepare students for the festival. It was
inspirational to spend time with these focused and engaged high school and
middle school students. The competition recital was excellent, and
reflected dedication and commitment the students put into preparing their
performances.

This year's winning ensemble is the Gouin Tellinghuisen Wyn Trio from Grand
Rapids, MI for their performance of Beethoven Trio op. 1 no. 3 mvt. 1.

The runner up ensemble is the Ragazzo String Quartet from Troy, MI for
their performance of Borodin String Quartet No. 2, 1st mvt.

Mitchell Chang, cello

Honorable Mention goes to the Majdanek Trio from Forest Hills Eastern in
Ada, MI for their performance of Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 2, 4th mvt.

Nathan La Huis, violin
Aidan Lancaster, cello
Ian Blackman-Staves, piano

Congratulations to these students and their teachers, Karen Krummel, Bryan
Kolk, and Anne Thompson!

Thank you to the members of the Ambassador String Quartet: Sunmi Chang,
violin, Judy Lin Wu, violin, Caroline Coade, viola, and Caroline Kim, cello
for their inspirational recital performance and coaching, and for serving
as judges for the competition. Thanks also go to Nathaniel Pierce, Molly
Baugh, and Aaron Reilley for sharing their expertise with the festival
participants.
