Greetings ASTA of Michigan members,
The first-ever Michigan ASTACAP will take place on May 21st, 2023 in
Jackson, MI (At the Jackson Symphony Orchestra building). The American
String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program is a fantastic
opportunity for private students of ASTA members.
This FREE HANDBOOK
<https://www.astastrings.org/Web/Resources/ASTACAP/ASTACAP_Handbook.aspx>
for ASTA members includes more information as well as (starting on p. 23)
information about the scales, arpeggios, etudes, pieces, and sight-reading
required at each level for violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp.
The American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement
Program (ASTACAP) provides a comprehensive curriculum and program of
examinations designed to serve string teachers and their students. ASTACAP
establishes definite goals and awards for students of all levels through
non-competitive examinations. Students are judged on technical and musical
preparedness at specific levels (foundation – level 10) by an ASTA examiner
of musical and pedagogical stature. A certificate of achievement is awarded
for each level successfully completed.
*What does an ASTACAP exam include?*
Students will be with a trained ASTACAP adjudicator for times ranging from
8 to 30 minutes depending on the level. Most levels include
- Scales/Arpeggios
- Etude
- Pieces (Between 1-3 pieces depending on level)
- Sight reading
*How do you and your students benefit from ASTACAP?*
- Progressive, flexible curriculum of scales, etudes, and repertoire from
foundation – level 10
- Individualized selection of study materials
- Use in any teaching tradition
- Non-competitive performance experience
- Examination by highly experienced, respected instructional specialists
- Detailed, supportive feedback
- Exam results provided directly to teachers
- Collaborate with other students and teachers
We are hoping to get data on the number of teachers and students who are
interested in attending on May 21st. More information will be sent out
before the end of the year.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions you may have.
