Dear MASTA members:

Last Thursday, my private students and I presented a recital
at one of our local assisted living facilities.
Each of my students was prepared with a solo and a duet. It was one of
the most heartwarming and inspiring evenings of my career. As each student finished a movement, you
could hear elderly voices uttering ‘wow’ or ‘beautiful’ or ‘oh my goodness’ and
each player walked away beaming.

I’m sure your year has been filled with many inspiring
evenings. Won’t you just take a few
minutes to write a paragraph about one of them and submit it to our blog or
post it on the MASTA webpage?

After our recital, I couldn’t stop thinking about what great
joy I've received from teaching strings and how the American String Teachers Association
has nurtured my development. String
teachers are different in a GREAT way – they thrive on being challenged, inspired
and focused. They care deeply about
their students’ progress and their needs as musicians AND as good people.

How can MASTA
continue to help nurture YOU in your string teaching? What can we do as an organization to keep YOU
inspired, challenged and focused?

In August 2016, the MASTA Board will meet in a day-long
retreat to discuss budget, job descriptions and by-laws as well as ideas
brought forth by our membership. Some of
those include an interactive calendar, master classes and scholarships. What ideas do YOU have???

I look forward to hearing from EVERYONE!

Musically yours – Janis
