Subject: Opportunity with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra

Janis Shier Peterson!

I hope you are off to a great start this school year with MASTA! I am writing to you today to let you know about an amazing music opportunity we are offering at the Wharton Center this season.

On November 7th we are presenting the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra with cello phenomenon Narek Hakhnazaryan and world-renowned music director and chief conductor Pavel Kogan. The orchestra will be performing Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde Overture, Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor, and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. I would love for you and your band to be a part of this magical evening!

The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest and most revered orchestras in Russia. The Los Angeles Times used words like “passionate” and “revelatory” to put their concert experience into tangible description. The performance on November 7th will also feature young Armenian cellist, Narek Hakhnazaryan, who has earned critical acclaim with major orchestras around the globe, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Together they will perform Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor.

Opening with Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde Overture, from the opera of the same name, it is a musical adventure all its own. Wagner’s music not only provided inspiration for numerous other composers but set the pace for classical music in the 20th century. The ensemble will close the concert with Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius, which many consider to be a musical/political statement and a “Symphony of Independence.”

Again, my goal is to provide a unique and easy educational opportunity for you! Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best of luck with all of your performances this year!

Sincerely,
Kristin Pagels
