Hello MASTA Members,
I hope you are well and had a nice holiday season with family and friends! I
wanted to share with you our 2020 MASTA Camp Application and some other
information about camp. The deadline for applications is May 1st. For more
information about the camps you can visit our camp website via the MASTA
Website <http://www.astamichigan.org/> or you can go directly to
www.mastastringcamps.com. The camp application is available on the "
Registration <http://www.mastastringcamps.com/registration.html>" page of
the website and has also been attached to this email. Information about the
individual sessions can be found on the "About Camp
<http://www.mastastringcamps.com/about-camp.html>" page.
We have three videos on YouTube that you can show your students so they get
an idea of what camp is like. You can check out our channel
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcIBh8JLPC2R_fldzv9DvCA, or for the
general video go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOauyTwWBNk. If you
would like a poster for your classroom or studio let me know and I can mail
one to you.
There is a scholarship program for camp sponsored by MASTA for those
students in financial need. The application is available on the MASTA
Camp website
on the Registration page at
https://www.mastastringcamps.com/registration.html. This application needs
to be sent separately to our Outreach Chair, Joanna VanEizenga, for
processing. The deadline for the scholarship applications is April 1st,
2020.
MASTA is also continuing the program where we award MASTA Members who send
5 or more students to MASTA Camp a $50 scholarship to give to one of their
students for the next year of camp. If you sent students to camp in 2019,
and your membership is current, we will be checking our records and for
every 5 students that attended camp you receive a $50 scholarship. So, if
you sent 10 students you get two scholarships, 15 students is three
scholarships, etc. If you have any questions about this please email me.
The MASTA String Camps are a great way for young students to come learn
more about their instrument in a fun and encouraging environment. Students
of all ability levels are welcome at camp. We differentiate instruction at
camp based on ability level so that all campers' needs are met. We also
make sure that they have plenty of fun away from their instrument by
providing a variety of traditional camp experiences.
The MASTA String Camps are held at the Howell Nature Center in Howell, MI.
The Nature Center has wonderful facilities for our campers, including
cabins that are carpeted and air conditioned with attached modern
bathrooms.
We are assembling a wonderful staff this year and look forward to working
with your students! We are still hiring counseling/instructional staff.
Anyone interested in working at MASTA Camp this summer should email me at
mihalkoc at gmail.com. If you have any questions about the camps please feel
free to email me directly or send an email to mastacamps at gmail.com and I
will be happy to help in any way that we can!
Sincerely,
Caitlin Mihalko, Camp Director
