Dear Retired Music Educator:

I serve on a Covid-19 Task Force of Michigan music organizations – MSBOA,
MSVMA, MMEA and MASTA.  I volunteered to set up a group for Retired Music
Educators so we can participate in this important work.

Covid-19 is wreaking havoc around the world and one of the areas facing
challenges is Music Education.  Social distancing threatens the cost
effectiveness of large class sizes, the positive PR from successful
performances and the social/emotional benefits of participation in a music
class.   As per pupil funding decreases and budget cuts ensue, music
programs may be at risk.

Recently, NYC asked retired doctors and nurses to consider helping during
the Covid crisis.  I am not asking that you return to work!  I am hoping
you will consider joining a group of concerned ‘retired-but-still-inspired’
music educators who will join together to advocate for music education in
Michigan.  United we stand – strength in numbers – the stick breaks but the
bundle doesn’t.  Membership would only require that your name be on a list.
You might be asked to write a letter or talk to a legislator but it would
be purely volunteer.

Please consider joining RMTM – Retired Music Teachers of Michigan – so we
can add your strength and knowledge to the cause.   All you have to do is
reply to this e-mail with one word YES and the name you wish to have on
record.  If you don’t want any more e-mails, please write: NO e-mails under
your name.  Please forward this message to all retired Michigan music
educators in your address book.

THANK YOU for your anticipated participation!  Together, we can keep the
programs alive that gave us our careers, our inspiration and our lifelong
love of music.
