25th Annual Troy Bass Workshop

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Athens High School, Troy Michigan

The Troy Bass Workshop has become a tradition here in southeast
Michigan. This is a unique opportunity for young bassists to get
together and play ensembles, get instruction from nationally
recognized bass teachers and performers, and get to know other young
bassists from around the region. We will begin registration at 8:30
am. The workshop will start at 9:00 am and end with a short informance
at 2:00 pm in the Troy Athens High School Auditorium. As always,
teachers are welcome to come and observe (observation fee $15.00).

Our special guest this year is Alex Hanna, Principal Bassist of the
Detroit Symphony. Alex was named Principal Bassist after a search
that included many outstanding bassist from all over the United States
and Europe. He has performed throughout North America, Europe, Asia
and Australia. His exceptional artistry and ensemble skills make him
one of the outstanding young bassist today. In addition to being one
of our clinicians at the workshop this year, Alex will perform and
talk about how he developed his career and what its like to be a young
player in the Detroit Symphony.

Beside Alex and myself, our other clinician will be John Kennedy. John
is a string teacher in the Farmington Public Schools and was formerly
the Assistant Principal Bassist of the Honolulu Symphony. He has been
nationally recognized for his work with young bassists. He is a
clinician at the Richard Davis Bass Workshop at the University of
Wisconsin and the Bay Area Bass Workshop in San Francisco, and is the
Director of the Young Bassist Program for the International Society of
Bassists.

Please encourage your bass students to join us again for a daylong
celebration of our noble instrument. If you have any questions
regarding the workshop, contact me at the address below. I look
forward to seeing your students there.

Sincerely,

Larry Hutchinson, Detroit Symphony Bassist, nationally recognized
clinician and MASTA
