Register for Doodle 4 Google by March 24
Doodle 4 Google is a competition for U.S. K-12 students to work their
artistic will upon Google's homepage logo around the theme, "If I
Could Do Anything, I Would ..."
This year, a group of well-known illustrators, cartoonists and
animators from organizations like The Sesame Street Workshop, Dr.
Seuss Enterprises, Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates and Peanuts
and Pixar Animation Studios, will be helping select the 40 finalist
doodles. The national winner will receive a $15,000 college
scholarship.
Teachers must register their schools by March 24, and submit artists'
pieces by March 31.
Artemya teacher submissions due Friday
The Western Michigan University Frostic School of Art proudly welcomes
submissions from 2D and 3D artists who reside in Michigan and teach
art. Artemya is an acronym for Art Representing (K-12) Teachers
Educating Michigan's Young Artists and was conceived as a way to
celebrate and honor the teachers who prepare their students to study
art at the college level.
Applicants must be current full-time or part-time art teachers
teaching grades K-12 working at any school in Michigan. Submissions
must be emailed by Friday, May 19. Winning pieces will be exhibited
during the Michigan Youth Arts Festival, with an opening reception May
14.
For application guidelines contact Bill Davis at
william.davis at wmich.edu.
Giveto6 when you file your taxes
This tax season, Michigan residents have their first opportunity to
dedicate a portion of their tax return to the Michigan Council for
Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). Every dollar donated will go
directly to supporting local arts and cultural organizations and
events throughout the state, like the Michigan Youth Arts Festival!
You can donate by downloading this form and sending it in with your
MI-1040. Just check the box next to #6 to give back to the arts!
New York City beckons
If you're going to the 2010 Festival, or are a Festival alum, you are
invited to Arts Trek to New York City, July 26-30.
Arts Trek is a travel tour for people with a passion for the arts. It
allows participants to explore a new city and experience its artistic
culture first-hand, through tours and performances, but also workshops
and behind-the-scenes access rarely afforded the casual tourist.
Participation in Arts Trek 2010 is limited to the first 40 Festival
alums (students, parents or teachers) who sign up. Download a flyer
with a complete itinerary, here. And register today!
